This year’s school enrolment process has been even more streamlined than in previous years.

As you will see, the advised period is now closed. We are aware that some parents may be uncertain about how to proceed and are needing guidance.
The Way Forward
Some schools are still taking applications & parents should be encouraged to try to enrol at a number of schools (at least three). Learners who apply to schools are then loaded onto the WCED CEMIS (CENTRAL EDUCATION MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM) system to facilitate tracking.
Schools are expected to communicate the outcome to applicants by June 24th.,If schools decline to place children on a waiting list, parents should be advised to report to the local district office and have their child’s name registered there.
Where Support Is Needed
A reminder that where pre-school learners are thought to need a moderate to high level of support, applications for special school placement will be initiated by health practitioners to the relevant WCED District. Due to the lengthy procedure and in some instances long waiting lists, parents are encouraged also to make application to their nearest mainstream schools as outlined above. This ensures that they are registered for school admission and do not run the risk of sitting at home. The SIAS process will ensure that their support needs are noted once school commences.
A further reminder that an exemption year may be applied for where children could benefit from a further pre-school year before starting Grade 1. This exemption year should be motivated for in good time using the appropriate form. The Grade R teacher will be required to complete the relevant form together with the parent and submit to the District office. Where exemption has been granted, this will need to be noted on the subsequent school applications.
Where learners are already attending a mainstream school, it is the school’s responsibility to motivate application to special school if their attempts to support a child have proved insufficient.
Please feel free to contact IESA Information & Support line should you have any questions or need further guidance.
